Bhopal: Doctor at Bundelkhand Medical College suspended

Bhopal: A doctor at Bundelkhand Medical College has been suspended over an issue of a stillborn at the medical college hospital. Recent reports emerging on the case suggest that the woman in question was made to shuttle between a district level hospital and medical college hospital , which led to stressful situation. Finally, she delivered outside the labor room on a stretcher in the district hospital.

Moreover it is reported that the husband of the pregnant lady Durga Thakur tried to look for doctors, carrying the baby on a bag but to no avail. Later, the police seized the body and performed post-mortem.

As reported by TOI, a doctor of medical college in Sagar was suspended and a showcause notice was served to another in the incident. Divisional commissioner Sagar will hold an elaborate inquiry. Dr Rekha Gupta of medical college has suspended while Dr Jagriti Kiran Nagar was served an explanation why the woman was referred back to the district hospital.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was medical negligence due to which the pregnant women could not deliver her baby on time, he said.

“The gynaecologist at Bundelkhand Medical College was not on duty due to which the woman and her husband were sent back to the district hospital. We are looking into the details and questioning people to find who is responsible for the botch up,”District chief medical and health officer Dr Dinesh Kaushal told

HT.

Considering that such a situation was clearly avoidable, a suspension order and a show cause notice to another doctor has been justified by the Commissioner Health.

The civil surgeon Indraj Singh Thakur in his statement to Freepress blamed the medical college doctors and implied that such cases happen due to lapse in attention from the doctors as they are concentrating more on their private practice.

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission has also taken into cognisance the incident of death of an infant and has sought detailed report from Principal Secretary, Health and Principal Secretary, Medical Education in two weeks. Chief Medical and Health Officer, Sagar and Dean, Medical College have been asked to appear and submit detailed report before single bench of the Commission on April 21.
