Bhopal: It has been reported that the pre-PG counseling at Gandhi Medical College, which saw 120 students coming in on the first day was a chaotic situation to handle. Instilled by the fear that no seats will be available students just rushed into participate in the process.

The counseling is reported to have started from Saturday, and first day saw 120 students following 485 students appearing for counseling on Sunday. The department has scurtinised 320 candidates. Even the students who had visited on Saturday were asked to report on Sunday for their fingerprints.

The heavy rush at the premise led to confusion as students wanted to get themselves registered on a priority basis.

The director of medical education department, Dr GS Patel informed Free Press that in the department organised pre-counselling for the post-graduation in medical education. The counselling started at the GMC from Saturday and would conclude on April 26.

Dr Patel added that the department organised the counselling for 536 PG seats for dental and medical courses.

In addition he implied that a petition has been filed in the high court of Jabalpur for seat allotments. The seat quota has also been increased to 50 per cent for in-service candidates, from the current 25 per cent. These are the candidates who are serving in the rural areas, after which a cabinet decision was implemented to increase the quota, and also, make available more specialized doctors in the rural areas.

However, this move raised objections from the regular candidates who raised objections on the issue in the high court. In the interim of the expected HC decision on April 27 on allocation of seats, it has been directed to hold the pre-counseling session-by the court.
