Bundelkhand Medical College Sagar doctor suspension draws protest
Bhopal: The recent decision by the district collector to suspend a doctor (Dr Rekha Gupta) at Bundelkhand Medical College Sagar (and issue a show cause notice to another) has drawn protest from other doctors in the district.
The United Doctors Federation is protesting over this recent suspension order by the health commissioner. The district collector has appointed an inquiry committee to look into the matter.

The premise of protests by the doctors association is based on the fact of investigation. Till the time it is not investigated properly, there should not be such a drastic measure.
As implied by one of the doctor in his statement the state is already facing a doctor crunch in government run medical colleges. Any such decision only puts more pressure on the system. Before a technical investigation, a suspension order is really not a solution to the problem.
The district collector of Sagar, Vikas Narwal has ordered the inquiry into the stillbirth of child delivered by Renu adivasi, resident of village Chargunva of Sagar district on Thursday. The general secretary of the federation, Dr Lalit Shrivastava told Free Press that the state is facing acute shortage of doctors in government hospitals. Around 3000 doctors are working in health and family welfare department of the state. On the other hand the state needs more then 15,000 doctors to perform duties.
Dr Jagriti Kiran Nagar (who was issued a show cause notice) told Hindustan Times that she was on a 45-day leave till March 22.
“Due to some health trouble, I couldn’t attend duty. On March 24, I received a call to attend duty but I had health trouble and informed them (the BMC superiors) about it. I have not committed any wrong... I will respond to the show-cause notice,” she said.
Bundelkhand Medical College medical superintendent Dr SP Singh told HT that it seemed the district hospital had ‘misled’ by stating there were complications in the delivery.
