Bareilly District Hospital to offer DNB courses

Bareilly: The Bareilly District hospital will be introduced to a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) for each of its courses, as per the state government’s decision. One DNB seat each will be allotted to the courses of ophthalmology, orthopaedics, medicine and general surgery. A collaboration has been undertaken with the Rohilkhand Medical College, on this issue and a memorandum of understanding (MoU)-signed. The course has been introduced to overcome specialist crunch, which is being faced by a majority of the state hospitals.

Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr K S Gupta, told TOI, “The admission for DNB course will be done through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the candidate will be allotted colleges depending on the ranking. The course will start here from April. The clinical training will take place at the district hospital, while the students will visit Rohilkhand Medical College for the library, pathology, and other laboratory works.”

The candidates are to undergo practical training at the hospitals under the guidance of senior doctors.

Besides Bareilly, similar programs are being planned in the district hospitals of Meerut Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, and Kanpur.
