Bhopal: Complying with the order of the Dental Council of India (DCI), the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MP Medical University), Jabalpur; has cancelled the admission of over 32 Undergraduate students pursuing BDS at five of its affiliated dental colleges.

The annulment came following an investigation launched by the apex dental council after it was forwarded a report by the university mentioning details of those UG students who were admitted to BDS in September and December 2018. These students had not joined the online counselling of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET UG 2018-19 as per the Medical Education Department.

Following are the dental colleges from where the mentioned numbers of BDS students have been discharged:

  • 19 students- Rishiraj College of Dental Science and Research College, Bhopal

  • 3 Students - Hitakarini Dental College, Jabalpur

  • 2 students - Modern Dental College & Research Centre, Indore

  • 1 Student- Guru Govind Singh College of Dental Science and Research College Burhanpur

The decision came on the basis of the report submitted by the MP Medical University, the DCI considered that the admission of these 32 BDS pursuing students was done against the rules since these dental students had not attended the mandatory NEET UG counselling for MBBS and BDS courses and nor had their names in the merit list.

Taking strict action, the Dental Council of India ordered cancellation of the admission of these 32 dental students, who received backdoor entries.

When contacted, Vice-Chancellor MP Medical University, Dr Sharma informed Bhaskar that action against these dental colleges for giving backdoor entry is also being considered. He said, “Dental Council of India has received a letter in which some colleges have given direct admission without following the rules. These admissions have been cancelled, action against colleges is also being considered.”

19 students “discharged” from one Dental College

TOI reports that in a letter written to Principal of the college, DCI secretary Dr Sabyasachi Saha referred to the letter of the Director of Directorate of Medical Education, Madhya Pradesh, in which he had sent a verified list of students admitted at Rishiraj College of Dental Science and Research Centre and said “19 students have not been allotted to the college in the NEET-UG counselling 2018-19 and as per their documents available they have not been admitted to the institution”.
