Assistant Professor appointments at MGM Medical college under scrutiny

Indore: Assistant Professor recruitment selections at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College seem to have been riddled with controversy, with allegations of favouritism and even candidates with unrecognised MCI degrees being selected. Allegations have also thrown after family members of senior faculty members have been selected.


The selection seems to have gone far in terms of protest after the names of the son and daughter in law of Dr Sharad Thora, dean MGMMC became a part of this list. Dr Sharad Thora was one of the five-member selection committee participants.


The list of candidates selected for the post of assistant professors in various departments under the direct recruitment scheme after the interviews were held on Saturday has been released by the college authorities.


According to senior professors, the selection norms were violated and favoritism was also witnessed.


Giving an example, one of the professors revealed that Dr Yogesh Pawde was selected despite, Dr Armita Tripathi being a topper.


“Similarly, selection of son and daughter-in-law of Dean, Dr Sharad Thora in orthopedics and gynecology department, selection of daughters of two IAS officers, head of SRL diagnostic in Ujjain, daughters of Dr Anil Bharani and Dr Pradeep Bhargava and others were done by setting aside the norms,” the professor, wishing anonymity informed Free Press Journal.


The professor also revealed that the daughter of the President of Madhya Pradesh, Medical Teachers’ Association, Dr Poonam Mathur had also been chosen.


“As per norms, an internal candidate were to get priority but it was no seen in the list released by the college on Saturday. Dr Thora had taken the interviews of his son and daughter in law,” he alleged.


Meanwhile, Dean Dr Sharad Thora denied claims of favoritism in the recruitment process.


“The selection process was transparent and it was done according to the norms. The selection was not the decision of any one member but the five-member committee selected the candidates,” he told the FPJ.


Dr Thora also denied that he had interviewed his son and daughter-in-law, as he stated to be on leave on the day of the interview.
