AP: Minister Health advises doctors against prescribing too many tests, surgeries

Hyderabad: The Minister for Health, C laxma Reddy while speaking at the valedictory conference of Os mania Medical College, Alumni Association, called upon doctors to avoid endorsing too many tests and surgeries. He said there was a general opinion formulated that hospitals were victimizing patients by recommending too many of both; sometimes resulting in fatalities.


He spoke of a new Rs 12 crore worth medical research building coming up in the medical college complex. He said that the foundation stone for it would be laid by the state's Chief Minister.


He also revealed that a limb change center and two new towers for kidney and liver respectively would be coming up at Os mania Medical College. The towers for kidney and liver are to provide specialized treatment, he added.


The Minister for Health also spoke about expansions at the district level for dialysis,trauma care and creation of facilities for kidney, liver and pancreatic tests. These he said were being started so that patients are not inconvenienced by having to travel all the way from Hyderabad.
