Hyderabad: The alleged suicide by Ist year student Y Sai Kumar Reddy on Tuesday has sent shock waves among students and faculty of Osmania. This is the second alleged case of suicide reported within a week,

As the academic session for the first year has just begun on October 17, there is a feeling that academic pressures could not have been the reason for the boy taking his life. Orientation classes began on October 8 and Sai Kumar was allotted a room in one of the newly constructed hostels on the college premises in Koti.

“I spoke to Sai Kumar and he sounded confident. Other students were nervous and I counselled them on how will it affect them. I did not give attention to Sai Kumar since he was confident,” said a fourth year MBBS student of the Osmania Medical College (OMC).

The table with a photo of Y Sai Kumar at the entrance of the college had the faculty and students surrounding it, all wondering over the cause behind the suicide, however cluless about it. The professors saying his classmates or hostel mates might have answers for it and the class mates shrugging and saying that he didn’t seem to have any issues and seemed like everybody else .

Earlier in the week, B Sravani, a 27 year old post graduate student pursuing Osmania Medical College had taken her life by injecting a mix of anesthesia and saline water.

The principal, Osmania Medical CollegeDr. Aruna Ramaiah said a team of associate professors and two students had been sent to meet the family to find out the reasons for suicide.
