Sri Padmavathi Medical College to move into its own building after 2 years

Tirupati: Sri Padmavathi Medical College (SPMC) for women looked after by Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati has got its permanent infra structure to be housed in.


Ever since it commenced operation, the college was waiting to get into its permanent premises. Till now it had been operating from a building belonging to Institute for Obstetrics. With mounting pressure of vacation, it was now in a quandary on how to proceed.


The management of SVIMS has expressed relief after the handing over of documents of the new infra structure by the AP Medical and Health Infrastructure Development Department, to it. The body has been supervising the project for the management till now.


The college will be shifted to the new structure soon.


The seven-storied building , has a 650 beds capacity, a separate hall for patients and attendants, with washrooms and waiting halls. On Wednesday, SVIMS Director, T S Ravi Kumar along with a team of doctors and faculty members of SPMC took a round of the new building.


With three lower floors of the building ready, the upper four call for electrical and other jobs completion.


"We have handed over the building and the lower three floors are ready for occupancy. In a month, the remaining floors will be formally handed over," Medical and Health Infrastructure Development, Executive Engineer, Nagesh told Express.


The structure has been built at the cost of a 101.5 crores.


Any further infrastructural delays would have cost SPMC, as the apex education regulator, the Medical Council of India has clarified that clearance and permissions from it will only be given after the institution had its own building. The building has taken almost 2 years to take final shape.
