Hyderabad: The Medical Council of India(MCI) in its effort to do away with illegal admissions in medical colleges has ahead of post graduate admissions, installed an online information system, for the academic year 2017-18. A notice issued by the MCI on April 17 spoke about colleges following parameters based on judicial decisions and the MCI regulations as well.

"In order to effectively monitor all admissions made in courses of medicine are in conformity with the requirement of regulations, an online monitoring system has been launched by the council," reads the notice. It further elaborates on the aim behind the online monitoring system being to ensure following of norms of admission laid down in the regulations and promotion of transparency and accountability in the field of medical education.

The Online system calls for submission of student data of all PG students seeking admission in PG and super specialty courses from May 20th onward. For broad specialty courses the online system would be opened from August 20th. "Medical colleges institutions must submit their student's admission details latest by June 7, 2017 for broad specialty and September 7, 2017 for super-specialty courses beyond which the colleges institutions will not be allowed to enter the details," states the notice.

The OMS calls for colleges to enter details such as student name, NEET score, date of admission, course name, sanctioned intake capacity, number of recognized seats, sanctioned seats, total number of seats. Several colleges until last year allowed admissions under the management quota without considering merit. However, this year the picture has turned different with the council giving a directive to all colleges to base admissions on merit and maintain both transparency and fairness.

"Any violation shall lead to discharge of the concerned student from the courses and such action against the concerned medical college institution as is permissible in law," clarifies the notice states the TOI.
