Andhra Pradesh: NIMS Bibinagar to be fully operational in three months

Hyderabad: The Rs. 100 crore Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hospital, Bibinagar, being developed on 155 acre of land,will start functioning at its best in three months from now, said Health Minister C Lakshma Reddy.


The 600 bed hospital will cater to medical needs of the population in 21 specialties akin to NIMS, he added. A trauma centre will also be set up at the hospital, he added.


Setting up of a medical college attached to the hospital is also under active consideration by the government, the minister added.


A proposal to set up a medical college attached to the NIMS hospital was under active consideration of the Government, he added. Started in 2006 the construction slowed down in 2009 due to various reasons. However , the hospital continues to extend out patient services ever since on an everyday basis.


In reply to a query the minister revealed an addition of 30 more hearse vehicles was in the offing alongside the 50 in operation. These are meant to transport dead bodies of patients who die while undergoing treatment at government facilities.


The Government is planning to replace ambulances operating under the 108 scheme and 30 of the replaced vehicles would be converted into hearse vehicles, he added.


He said under the Amma Odi scheme the government planned to ferry women who give birth to children in Government hospitals, to their native places in these vehicles. Efforts were also on to launch two-wheeler ambulances and the Government was actively considering extending hearse vehicle facilities to patients admitted in corporate hospitals under the Arogya Sri scheme, he added.
