Hyderabad: 20 second and third-year students of MNR Medical College Sangareddy, were reportedly suspended by the college authorities for consuming alcohol and organising a party on campus. The students allege that the suspensions have been ordered without any substantive proof being available of students consuming alcohol. The decision was taken by the authorities after having found students celebrating a birthday, on Tuesday.

A final year student, on condition of anonymity, said, "There were around 30 to 40 students in the hostel and we were celebrating the birthday of one of the inmates of the hostel, without any alcohol. After noticing that we cut a cake at midnight, the security guard took pictures and videos of us and sent them to the principal alleging that we were consuming alcohol based on the presence of some old beer bottles in the hostel."

He claimed that that the 20 suspensions were based on false charges, as the students had only been cutting a cake in the hostel.

The suspension decision of the authorities saw 200 students standing up to it. The Principal is believed to have promised to revoke the suspensions.

When contacted, Principal, Venkat Ramanaiyah, of MNR Medical College told Deccan Chronicle, ''It is an internal matter of the college; we will resolve the issue.
