Andhra Pradesh: Foundation Stone for Rs 1000 crore King's College Hospital laid

Amaravati: Foundation stone for a Rs 1000 crore Indo UK institute of Health, expected to generate livelihood for 10000 people, was laid at Amravati on Wednesday.


Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda and Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, United Kindom- Member of Parliament, Andrew Mitchel and KCH’s London Chairman, Lord Robert Kerslake, participated in the foundation laying ceremony conducted at the Convention Centre, Vijayawada.


Part of a collaboration between the two countries on developing of 11 Indo-UK Institutes of Health (IUIH) in India by Indo-UK Healthcare Private Limited, the IUIH, Amaravati, has proposed to set up the first KCH at Amaravati.


The Amravati Centre will house the headquarters and some common facilities for all the 11 healthcare centres to come up all over India.


The King’s College London is a public research university in London which is also a constituent college of the Federal University of London.


According to AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), Amravati will be in a position of advantage in terms of healthcare expertise and development of direct links with the United Kingdom and the National Health Services Organization (NHS, London).


The APCRDA revealed that a 150-acre plot at Navuluru will be allotted to the project by the state government.50 acres will be allotted in the Ist phase and the other 100 acres during the second one.


The phase 1 project on 50 acres would include a 1000 bed King’s college Hospital, IUIH supply chain centres, NHS Oncology Unit with a rehabilitation centre, nursing school of 200 seat strength, and a paramedic training school with 200 students.


The Phase 2 100 acre project would incorporate- King’s College London Medical College, Zimmer Biomet PG Medical Centre, Implant manufacturing industry: NHS Stem Cells-Translational research and medical centre, five star and 3 star hotels, Zimmer Biomet PG Medical Centre, IBM Asia Data Analytics Centre and a1000 bed King’s College Hospital.


The 1000 bed hospital is meant to be a tertiary care multi speciality hospital to be operated by King’s College Hospital, London.


It would include departments like general, trauma, ortho, gastro, and neuro etc The hospital is meant to provide the best of health facilities available internationally.


Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, an academic faculty of KC, London is also to be set up. It will be the Ist nursing school to be continuously connected to the serving hospital and medical school, reports Hans India.


TIMELINE

  • Construction of hospital and nursing college and PG training academy and Indo UK clinic to begin – in 2018

  • Opening of Indo UK Clinic and Diagnostic Centre –in 2019

  • Opening of 250-bed Hospital –in 2019 /2020

  • Opening of 500-bed hospital –in 2022

  • Opening of medical College- in 2023
