Vijaywada: The issue of senior resident ship in Government Hospitals and the revision of their pay scales as per the government order (GO107) instead of an increase in their honorariums, are the two issues that the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJDA) would like the state government to have discussed by a newly appointed Committee.

APJDA President, U Raghuram, while addressing the gathering accused the government of using resident doctors as puppets and demanded that the government stop using them as bonded labour.

The President (APJDA), stated that a bond, worth Rs 2 lakh, had been signed by the doctors and the university for a period of one year. The Association demanded that the university appoint doctors who are qualified and willing to work through a notification released by it.

Krishna Chaitanya, APJDA Secretary said that mandatory senior residentship was not mandatory as per the guidelines of the MCI. The State government however, he observed was making it mandatory and putting PG medicos to use instead of recruiting new doctors.

According to rule 26 of the MCI, no state can withhold registration once a PG student is over with his/her PG course. The state also does not have the right to withhold resignation on completion of course by a PG medico say MCI's rule 26.

The MCI's rule 26 also does not give the state a right to withhold registration once a PG student has completed his /her course.

Withholding of recognition by the AP government is against the rules of the MCI.

"The government has to constitute a committee and decide whether the government needs Senior residentship or not. If they need them, the government has to pay according to the GO 107," added Krishna to TNIE.
