Jaipur: Pabulal Jangir, a 21-year-old AIIMS Jodhpur student’s suicide has taken the college authorities and students by surprise, as this bright student had cleared the medical entrance exam against all odds. According to Jaipur’s Pink City Post, he ended his life by hanging himself from the railing of his hostel room balcony, on Saturday night.

Hailing from Chokhala village in Barmer district’s Bayatu tehsil, Pabulal inspired many in the country for his achievements, since he was a student who despite all odds of circumstance had overcome hurdles with grit and hard work, emerging as one of the toppers at AIIMS. In 2016 this daily wage earner's son secured the 116th rank in the AIIMS MBBS exam. He had prepared for the AIIMS entrance under a lantern hanging from the branch of a tree, in the village square.

His life took a new turn when his uncle took the responsibility of his education and the boy shifted to Barmer. After two years of hard work at Kota, Pabulal overcoming all odds, secured a position in the AIIMS exam. He was a second-year student and one among toppers in the college.

On that fateful Saturday night, says Pink Post, when he did not come for dinner, his hostel mates knocked on his room door; on getting no response, they broke it open and found Pabul hanging from the ceiling fan in the balcony outside his room.

He had used a rope to end his life, stated the Shastri Nagar police in Jodhpur. He was rushed to the AIIMS OPD by his friend, where the doctor declared him brought dead.

The police have put his body in the mortuary of the hospital, waiting for the parents to arrive. The post-mortem is to be conducted in their presence.

“We searched the room during the night but didn’t find any suicide note. We are recording the statement of the hostel mates, teachers and the college staff. We will also talk to the family members to know as to what drove him to take the extreme step. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
