Rajkot: An alleged ragging incident has surfaced from the well known MP Shah Government Medical College where a complaint has been filed by an MBBS student against two final year medicos.

According to a recent report by TOI, all three MBBS students, the complainant and the accused medicos study in the same batch. In his complaint, the MBBS student has stated that the two medicos had thrashed him and threw his luggage out of hostel room allegedly over room allotment issues.

He informed the authorities that he is not eligible for hostel accommodation as per the rules. However, he was staying with a mutual understanding in somebody’s room.

He claimed that the medicos beat him and out of fear, he did not reveal the incident to anyone.

After receiving the complaint, the medical college administration provided security to the complainant and recorded the statements of all the three MBBS students.

To take a decision on the matter, the anti-ragging committee of the medical college is going to hold a meeting on June 6.

Speaking to TOI, MP Shah Government Medical College Dean Dr Nandini Desai informed, “According to the rules, the college doesn’t provide hostel facility to a local person. The complainant MBBS student was a resident of Jamnagar but he was living in somebody’s room with mutual understanding. The dispute between the students was over room allotment whose process is still going on.”

However, authorities suspect that all three students violated the rules stipulated for the medical college and hostel. It is expected that disciplinary actions may be taken against them.

“We have recorded the statements of the students and there was a harsh reaction from both sides. We may take disciplinary action as per college and hostel rules against all of them,” the Dean added to her statement.

Meanwhile, the medical has also called the parents of all three MBBS students to the meeting when the anti-ragging committee will also provide its inputs on this serious matter.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Cell had received a complaint from some of the medical students at the Medical College that they are being ragged at the institute’s campus.

In the said mail sent to the warden on 20th October 2018, it had been stated, “Some senior doctors are mentally harassing juniors regarding work.”
