AIIMS will come up in Madurai, PM to lay Foundation stone : Nadda

Chennai: Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Friday said all the formalities were completed and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital will be established in Madurai at a cost of Rs 1200 crore.

Talking to newsmen at the Airport here enroute to Puducherry to attend the convocation of JIPMER, he said the people of Tamil Nadu are very much anxious to know about the AIIMS. ''I would like to make it clear that the AIIMS is going to come up in Madurai. All the formalities have been done and it will be passed by the Cabinet'', he added. Mr Nadda said Prime Minister will soon come to lay the foundation stone for setting up the AIIMS.

''Just two days back, I had the opportunity to meet Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar along with the State Health Secretary and today met BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan'', he said. He said three super speciality blocks were constructed at Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli at a cost of Rs 150 crore each. The completed complexes would be inaugurated soon.

Similarly, the construction of Medipark (Medical Park), India's first medical technology manufacturing cluster, aimed at producing low-cost diagnostic devices and ensure delivery of affordable healthcare was on the final stage, Mr Nadda said. ''We will request the Prime Minister to inaugurate it also'', he said.

Mr Nadda said as far as the Central government was concerned, all the health projects were being cleared along with the state government.''We are working very aggressively so that the people of Tamil Nadu should get the benefits out of it''.
