AIIMS to be established in Deoghar, Jharkhand: Faggan Singh Kulaste
New Delhi, Feb 3 : The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved a site in Deoghar, offered by the Govt of Jharkhand for establishment of AIIMS , subject to certain conditions being fulfilled. This was revealed by the Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Faggan Singh Kulaste, on Friday, while replying to a series of queries on the health sector, in the Lok Sabha.
Commenting on the primary objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Yojana(PMSSY), the Minister said, correction of regional imbalances in availability of affordable/reliable tertiary level healthcare in the country, in general, and augmentation of facilities for quality medical education in under served backward states in particular, was its driving force.
Besides setting up of AIIMS, PMSSY also contemplated up gradation of various Government Medical Colleges of different states of the country he added.
The PMSSY presently, incorporates setting up of 19 AIIMS and up gradation of 71 GMCs', the Minister added.
Speaking about the state of Jharkhand, the Minister said, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) is being taken up for up gradation in the first phase of the yojana at a cost of Rs. 120 cr (Central Share Rs. 100 cr, state share Rs. 20 crore) reports
He also revealed that the third phase of the Prime Minister's Swasthya Suraksha Yojana had taken up the up gradation of Patliputra Medical College Hospital at a total cost of Rs. 150 crore
