AIIMS Bhubaneswar starts admission for PG courses

Odisha: AIIMS Bhubaneswar started admissions for PG courses for this academic session which begins in July. There are four students who have shared their options for PG courses at AIIMS. The centralized counseling was conducted in AIIMS Delhi on June 6. This was the first round of counseling held in Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Rishikesh and Jodhpur.


The second round of counseling is to be held on June 13. AIIMS Rishikesh is expected to admit 20 students and AIIMS Jodhpur will offer 8 seats. AIIMS Patna, Raipur and Bhopal are yet to start PG admissions for this year.


Dean of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar Vikas Bhatia in his statement implied that the institute is looking at admissions of 16 students. This unit of AIIMS will admit two students each in the eight non-clinical departments of anatomy, biochemistry, community medicine, forensic medicines, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and physiology. PG courses admissions will be organised two times in a year. One session will be held in July and the other in January.


Medical Dialogues team earlier reported that AIIMS Bhubaneswar is likely to implement changes in teaching departments of the institute including offering of postgraduate courses in eight paramedical subjects. The added subjects include anatomy, physiology, forensic medicine, biochemistry, and community medicine from July with two seats in each and a likelihood of 8 more subjects being added next year. A three-year course in Bachelor of Science in Medical technology, with an intake capacity of 30 is also to be introduced from this year. Offered in three streams the course will be the first of its kind to be introduced in AIIMS, Bhubaneshwar. A one-year postdoctoral fellowship programme in critical and palliative care is also being introduced at the institute in 2016.


The institute will start admitting students for MD (master of medicine)/ MS (master of surgery) in seven clinical disciplines of obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery, ENT, radio-diagnosis, radio therapy, ophthalmology and anaesthesia from the session starting in December. It is planning to start post-doctoral courses (DM and MCh) in various courses soon, said Bhatia to TOI. The 400-bed AIIMS hospital in the city is also likely to increase its capacity to accommodate 1000 beds later.


Other developments would entail, doctor recruitment's, department additions, longer operational hours in operation theaters, installation of mammography machine, MRI and CT scanners, health check up facilities at affordable rates, and introduction of post doctoral, post graduate and graduate medical courses.
