AIIMS Bhubaneshwar facelift near completion, 400 beds, 15 OTs to be added

Bhubaneshwar: The facelift tasks undertaken by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneshwar with 400 additional beds, and 15 state-of-the-art modular operation theatres for its various indoor departments will reach completion by March next year.


Telegraph Of the planned 179 faculty recruitments in various disciplines, 100 positions will be filled by the end of January. Work on medical gas lines being laid for operation theatres has also gathered momentum.


"Procurement of beds and infrastructure development is also going on. We hope the addition of 400 beds will immensely help patients," Gitanjali Batmanabane, AIIMS, Director told Telegraph .


Patient strength at AIIMS would increase to 850 patients with the addition of beds. "The institute has gradually gained momentum in providing good healthcare services. People are coming here from various parts of the state every day," said an official of the institute.


Modular operation theatres and medical gas lines, introduced at AIIMS will make it the only public hospital in the city to have such services for patients. Facilities of this Magnitude for patients are presently offered only in corporate hospitals


Shijua, the area where AIIMS is located, now falls under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation in order to provide quality civic services, including proper management of solid waste, streetlights, urban infrastructure and more to the institute . "We have started installing waste bins and are conducting regular cleaning in the area," a civic official told The Telegraph.
