After UP, now Himachal to Name its Medical University after Vajpayee

Shimla: After Uttar Pradesh, the state of Himachal Pradesh is also set to dedicate its medical university to late and former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, by naming their university after him


The BJP government in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday introduced a bill in the Assembly proposing to rename an upcoming medical university after its leader and former Prime Minister, late Atal Behari Vajpayee.


The state government has decided that the name of the Himachal Pradesh University of Health Sciences be renamed as the Atal Medical and Research University, Himachal Pradesh, said Health Minister Vipin Parmar, who introduced the bill.

The Himachal Pradesh University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2019, is likely to be listed for debate in the 68-member House on today.

This makes HP the second state this year to name its university after the late PM. Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in the month of December 2018, with an aim of regulating all the medical and dental institutions in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced the setting up of an umbrella medical university, which will be named after former honourable Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A bill was also introduced in the state cabinet to this effect. The Uttar Pradesh State Medical University Bill 2018 was drafted to set up an umbrella medical university, Atal Bihari Vajpayee state medical university; is planned to grant affiliation to 13 state medical colleges, 22 private universities, two autonomous institutions, two non-autonomous institutes and 17 private dental colleges

Last week, in its budget, the UP cabinet approved the proposal of having a medical university in the name of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and earmarked Rs 50 crore for it
