Promise of MD Seat: MBBS Doctor, family cheated of Rs 81 lakh, 2 arrested
Hyderabad: The cyber crime wing of Hyderabad police on Thursday, managed to nab two habitual offenders involved in crimes related to fraudulent offers of medical seats in colleges all over the country, through the mobile tracking system. The criminals were booked in Delhi, this time, for having conned a Fatima Rizvi of Rs 81 lakh, with an alluring offer of a PG medical seat for her daughter, under the NRI quota.
The con game began with Fatima receiving an SMS with a message content that ran as follows: "MD/Ms/Dear doctor PG 2018 seats, under NRI quota, top Pvt/deemed Colleges in India /Nepal. More information & guidance -Dr. R.S.Yadav". Fatima responded immediately by calling back on the number given in the SMS with a request for a seat for her daughter.
Bangalore Medical College, Mysore Medical College, Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Ballary, were some of the colleges rattled off to the victim for a central quota seat.
Fatima was during the conversation also asked to pay a demand draft of Rs. 5000 in favor of the Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi. The demand draft was collected by a man named Singh who came to Hyderabad for both the DD and application form from Rizvi.
The victim in the meantime also received a PG seat approval email for a seat under the central pool quota from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This email sent from noreply@mohfw.nic.in is alleged to have been a was a forged one.
The forged email was followed by a Dr R S Yadav and Singh reaching the RGI Airport to collect the first installment amount of Rs 10 lakh, explained an official press note.
With this followed the victim receiving a seat confirmation for her daughter from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi from noreply@mohfw.nic.in. This confirmation ended with the victim, Fatima Rizvi making a payment of Rs. 36 lakh to the accused at the RGI airport.
Fatima having paid the above sum now received an email from rguhs.ac.in informing her of admission approval for Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary. She was asked to upload documents and pay eligibility fee of Rs. 3000/ on www.rguhs.ac.in. March 2018 saw Fatima get another email from the RGUHS about her daughter having been allotted an MD (Dermatology) seat at Vijayanagar Institute. The email mentioned an allotment number too. The victim by now had paid up a total amount of Rs 81 lakh to the conmen reported the TOI.
Realization dawned that she had been fooled when she went to the college to confirm her daughter's admission and was told of her not being on the rolls.
The investigations done revealed that they had been operating in different parts of the country including Karnataka, Delhi, and Mumbai and had 16 cases pending on them.
The offenders Santosh Kumar Rai and Manoj Kumar Pathak were booked in Delhi and several stamps belonging to the Supreme Court, various, examiners and other medical departments were seized from them revealed Police Commissioner, Anjani Kumar. The other material recovered from their person included application forms of the Directorate General of Health Services, Debit/Credit cards, PAN cards he added
