94th foundation day of Patna Medical College held: 53 Toppers Conferred Gold Medals
PATNA: A moment of kudos for medicos was recently observed at the 94th foundation day of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The event was inaugurated by the state Union minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey wherein 53 toppers were conferred with gold medals.
The event saw Vice-chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Arun Kumar Agarwal as the guest of honour; who presented the medals to the meritorious students.
During the event, 53 toppers were awarded. In the MBBS category, Puja Kumari, Shreyas Jaiswal, Khushboo Tekriwal, Shivam, Parijat Kumar, Manish Raj, Stuti Nupur and Kumar Sandeepan were among those who got more than one gold medals. Varsha Thakur, Satya Prakash Narayan, Diksha Bharti, Swapnil Prakash, Jaya Sinha, Rahul Jha, Shrishti Shikha, Shubham, Ravina Bharti and Shirin Tarun Shrivastava were the other gold medal winners.
Moreover, 13 gold medals were conferred to former Post Graduate (PG) students in various categories.
Dr Aman Sinha and Dr Gaurav Kumar (medicine), Dr Neenu Gupta (radiology), Dr Amit Abhishek (PG degree, anesthesiology), Dr Rohit Kumar (PG diploma, anesthesiology), Dr Badal Kumar (ENT), Dr K Rimi Singh (paediatrics), Dr Kumari Pratibha (obstetrics and gynaecology), Dr Sashi Prakash (surgery), Dr Jyoti (eye), Dr Ishu (PG diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology), Dr Kusum Gupta (dermatology) and Dr Binay Kumar (orthopaedics) were awarded with gold medals.
In addition, one student, Jyoti Ranjan Kumari, who topped nursing final year was awarded Ratan Pyari Devi gold medal.

One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement of laying the foundation stone for a super speciality hospital at PMCH Patna on March 2 by the Union Health Minister, JP Nadda. The state health minister, Choubey mentioned that the chief minister Nitish Kumar and he would also attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
According to a report by HT, the Centre had approved around Rs 193 crore each for PMCH and the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, for construction of super speciality hospitals.
PMCH will have a 160-bed super speciality hospital in gastroenterology (medical and surgical), haematology, radiotherapy, urology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, neonatology and paediatric surgery and endocrinology.
A parliamentary standing committee on health and family welfare was here last November to evaluate the development of work and had expressed its displeasure over the delay.
Speaking at the event, Choubey admired the announcement made by the Patna Medical College Alumni Association that it will bear the cost of the medical study of one child each of the two of CRPF martyrs of the Pulwama attack.
The association has decided to bear the study cost of the martyrs' children competent in securing admission in any government medical college. The alumni association president Dr Satyajeet Singh asked the government to relax eligibility criteria for admission of martyrs' children in government medical colleges.
The alumni association also demanded appropriate training of MBBS pass outs. Convener of PMC alumni association, Dr Sachchidanand Kumar, told TOI that after clearing MBBS, the medicos start preparing for postgraduate due to lack of training opportunities. "A two-year training is a must for them," he said.
