6 New AIIMS Branches with 300 MBBS seats to become functional this year

New Delhi: Newly inaugurated branches of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at six different cities will become functional from the academic year 2019-20 with an allotment of 50 MBBS seats each, collectively making it to 300 seats.


The MBBS course will begin at new AIIMS located at Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Telangana.


The Medical Dialogues team has earlier reported that the confirmation to this effect was made via prospectus released by All India Institutes of Medical Sciences 2019 which entailed all details regarding the AIIMS MBBS exam including exam pattern, preparation of result, counselling details and the entire admission procedure.


It mentioned that in the current year, six new branches of AIIMS will be established across the country. These include AIIMS Kalyani, Raebareli, Gorakhpur, Bathinda, Deogarh and Bibinagar. In these new medical institutes, a total of 300 MBBS seats were allotted with 50 MBBS seats at each campus.

In addition, at the AIIMS Nagpur and Guntur, 50 MBBS seats each were added to their existing pool of 50 seats at each institute; making 100 UG Medical seats at each medical college.


The AIIMS prospectus mentioned the details of reserved seats.




  • 51 seats for Unreserved category

  • 27 seats for OBC (Other Backward Class) category

  • 15 for SC category

  • 7 seats for ST category

  • 5% of the total seats are reserved for PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category.


The governing board of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took a decision to start the said AIIMS institute to provide students with proper medical education and training. This would make 15 out of 21 AIIMS institutes go functional.


According to officials, the number of MBBS seats has been increased from 100 to 125 in four other AIIMS in order to accommodate students from the Economically Weaker Sections, reports the New Indian Express.
