59 medical colleges have received MCI Recognition till this year: MOS health

New Delhi: Total of 59 medical colleges across the country, have been given Medical council of India (MCI) recognition in the past three years and current year, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOS Health) apprised the Rajya Sabha recently

Responding to the question raised by MP Shri Dhirak Prasad Sahu on the details of medical colleges granted recognition, the MOS health informed that the country has total 529 Medical Colleges, comprising of 266 Government Medical Colleges and 263 Private Medical Colleges, at present.

The minister also provided the list of the 59 approved medical colleges which showed that

• Maximum colleges got recognition in the State of Kerala with 8 medical colleges getting the MCI nod.


• 6 Medical Colleges got Recognition in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu,


• 7 Medical Colleges received recognition in Uttar Pradesh,Karnataka


• The states of Telangana, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan saw recognition for 2 medical colleges each while one medical college each were approved in Assam,Odisha, HP, Bihar and Chattisgarh. 3 medical colleges were recognised respectively in Maharashtra and Gujarat


• Andhra Pradesh had 5 of its medical colleges receive recognition
