Mumbai:While confusion prevails regarding admission to private and deemed universities, some deemed universities in the state are already putting up admission lists for the next batch.

Despite state governments filing petitions in the Supreme Court, admissions have begun in some institutes; this is much to the worry of students who are fighting to get 85 % reservation for domicile, in state private institutes.

Less than two weeks ago, based on a Supreme Court ruling , deemed universities have gone ahead and started their separate admission process, not bound by any state government rules.

Most institutes have decided to start regular lectures in the first week of October. “There is no stay on admission in deemed institutes and we are conducting admissions as per the last order of high court. We should finish the process of counselling by the end of this week and a list should be out early next week,” said Dr Shashank Dalvi, Vice-Chancellor of Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Ahmednagar.

Parents have been gathering outside the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis’s office and residence, this comes after a delegation of parents met the CM in Nagpur.

“The government has assured us that even though National Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test (NEET) has to be compulsorily followed by all, students will get 85% seats in all institutes in the state. Not only have our children scored low because of last-minute preparation, they are also losing out on seats to outsiders,” said Ruiee Kapoor, a parent.

Both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court have two separate petitions pending. Both petitions are to be heard on Wednesday.
