The Rural Police registered a case against 18 doctors for their alleged involvement in a scuffle at the Government Medical College late last night.

At midnight late last night, a scuffle broke out between two groups of doctors and other staff over a trivial matter.

The policemen on duty attempted to pacify the doctors but they were allegedly manhandled by the accused.

To bring the situation under control, a Rapid Action Force team was summoned. Even then the intern doctors indulged in the scuffle and gave slogans, worsening the situation, police said.

Finding no other alternative, the RAF team resorted to baton charge, sustaining serious injuries to four of the doctors and they were admitted to the hospital.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the police sub-inspector Ade, a case has been filed against 18 doctors including Dr Sanjot Gajanan Giri, Dr Rohan Badgur, Dr Rahul Patil, Dr Sanjay Girmaji Muttepawar, Dr Rahul Ashok Khirliya, Dr Rohit Mangal, Dr Manish Meshram, Dr Rishikesh Pande, Dr Ganesh Dankar, Dr Rahemat Siddique and others, sources added.

To protest the incident of lathi charge on the doctors, the activists of MARD Association launched a strike but after discussion with the dean of the college and getting an assurance of inquiry into the matter, the strike was withdrawn in the evening.
