Nagpur : 17 port trust hospitals to be converted into medical colleges
Nagpur: 17 port trust hospitals in India will undergo an upgradation to super speciality institutions and into medical colleges. This news has been confirmed by the Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari implying that the medical college conversion model will be based in PPP model.
MCI member Dr Ved Prakash Mishra is heading the committee working on a preliminary report to be officially presented on July 11. The first project will involve conversion of Mumbai port hospital into a 1000-bed super speciality hospital.
Gadkari in addition implied that these medical colleges will offer UG as well PG level courses. This step will also address the need of shortage of doctors into our country. Also, presently PM Narendra Modi is also likely to provide regulation of policies for increasing trained doctors and have more charitable hospitals.
Gadkari was present at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day International Cancer Congress being organised recently by Health Care Global (HCG), Nagpur centre, and Nagpur Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NCHRI). There were mayor Pravin Datke, guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, organizing chairman Dr Ajay Mehta and others were present at the occasion.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis , who could not attend the conference, said in his note, "Our state became first in the country to join the national cancer grid under which all government colleges and medical colleges will be linked together for uniform cancer profiling and quality treatment."
The note also said that the state will develop a bone marrow registry with the help of Tata Trust for which an MOU has been signed. There is also a plan to set up a hospital information system and a drug supply corporation. He also highlighted about tobacco free school premises programme.
