133 MBBS students Stranded In Russia over Medium of Teaching
Smolensk State Medical University (SSMU) in Russia has taken a decision to not admit any Indian student in their Russian medium MBBS course and limit their entrée to the English medium course alone. This decision comes after 133 Indian students were forced to quit their MBBS course after the Ist year, as the 2nd year commenced with Russian- as a medium of instruction.
The abandoned students have now decided to seek Medical Council of India's intervention, who they want should help them in getting a transfer to another college, where the medium of instruction is English.
DNA has reported the case of these 133 Indian students and how they were conned into being sent to SSMU to pursue an MBBS in the Russian medium, instead of English, by a Delhi based agency -Rus education.
MY Dyakov, Dean, Faculty, Foreign Students, SSMU told DNA, "We plan to not admit Indian students in the Russian medium. The education consultancy has cheated Indian students and this incident has given a bad name to the university. We have to take a firm stand on the issue so that no other Indian student is cheated again."
The Ist year was smooth sailing for the 133 students, however, problems arose when the medium changed to Russian in the 2nd year. The whole lot was left in a stranded state when told that the education agency had enrolled them in a Russian medium course instead of an English one.
