With out MCI Nod, SKIMS MD Gynaecology Medicos stuck with Unrecognized Degrees
Srinagar: The future of MD Gynaecology medicos from the Department of Gynaecology of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura is at stake as the Medical Council of India (MCI) is yet to grant recognition to the MD degree of the department.
With this scenario, the passouts from the department are going to receive unrecognized degrees, which is bound to hinder their future prospects.
According to a recent media report, the authorities of the Gynaecology Department could not fulfil the basic requirements as per the MCI norms. Around 6 MD Gynaecology pass out every year from the department and since their degree remains unrecognized by the MCI, therefore, they remain unable to move out of the state for higher studies.
In 2012, the SKIMS had applied for the MCI recognition for the department. Two consecutive inspections were conducted in 2016 where the MCI had pointed out the deficiency in terms of machinery and required expansions of the hospital building.
An official informed the Daily Excelsior, "After the inspection in 2016, the MCI had asked for the basic requirements to be fulfilled for the recognition. However, even after the passage of 3 years, there has been no compliance on the part of the administration so far."
The hospital is taking much time in setting up the required machinery that the MCI had asked for. "It is taking months to procure the machinery, which is telling upon the entire process," the official added.
On the other hand, the Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan informed the daily that to get the recognition of the MCI, the work is in progress.
"The work is on, not everything has been done so far, but the things are getting done, it is taking time," Dr Farooq informed.
The Head of the Department, Dr Abida informed that they are trying to put in place the required machinery and mandatory expansions.
Dr Adiba stated, "It is taking a bit of time, but the things are getting done."
