West Bengal: Medical student meets death in mysterious circumstances

Kolkata: Sanjukta Dasgupta, a 20 year old medical student from Tripura and a student of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital, Shankarpur, was found floating in a pond in Kankinara on Sunday morning. She returned from her native place on Friday and went missing on Saturday.

A paying guest at Kakinara's Arunachal Colony, Sanjukta went to Agartala on Monday to visit her ailing father, Subir Dasgupta, a former railways employee, revealed her classmates. After her return on Friday,Ms. Dasgupta, decided to visit the local temple on Saturday. Being short of change, she borrowed Rs. 20 from her landlady and left for the temple Puja, confessed her landlord, Bimalendu Chakraborty ." But we suspected something was wrong after she didn't return home till late evening," Chakraborty added.

Sumit Nath and Priyajit Das, her classmates & hailing from Agartala, staying as tenants in the same house,went looking for her along with some locals; however, she couldn't be traced. Chakraborty later lodged a ‘missing’ report with Jagaddal police station. On Sunday morning, the girl’s dead body was found floating in a pond near the temple.

Ms.Dasgupta’s uncles, Subrata Dasgupta and Samir Dasgupta from Agartala, reached Kankinara on Sunday evening to take the body home. "We are yet to inform her ailing father about Sanjukta's death as he is still unwell. We can't understand how she fell into the pond. We suspect foul play . We have demanded a proper probe into her death," Subrata, her uncle said.
