Varanasi: Students of faculty of Dental Sciences, IMS-BHU end strike

Uttar Pradesh: A group of students of faculty of dental sciences, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, IMS-BHU reported strike on Friday morning, and ended the strike by afternoon.

After having reached an amicable solution to their demand demanding action against the proctorial board members; who they alleged had used sticks on few students protesting outside the vice-chancellor's lodge, a day prior.

The university administration seems to have pacified the students at present giving them an assurance over the matter. The third year students of dental sciences have been told that their demand for allotment of single room accommodation is under consideration by the university authorities.

In addition, a probe is likely to be carried out by an investigation team to be appointed after the return of BHU VC G C Tripathi to probe into the allegations of cane-charge by proctorial board members.

TOI reported that scores of third year students of dental sciences had reached the VC lodge and started staging sit-in on Thursday night, demanding separate hostel rooms for them. The students, who had met the director of institute earlier in the day, were not convinced of the assurance and had later marched to VC's lodge for intervention. When the proctorial board personnel deployed at the lodge asked them to return owing to absence of VC, they did not budge. The students alleged that proctorial board personnel cane-charged them.

BHU chief proctor Satyendra Singh claimed that no cane was cane-charged. The proctorial team was simply urging the students to move away from the VC's lodge.
