Vandalism at Medical College under Alcohol Influence: 19 MBBS medicos including House Surgeons SUSPENDED
The suspended medical students were high on alcohol and had damaged the properties of the medical college campus hostel after getting into a group clash

Thanjavur: The influence of alcohol has led to the suspension of 19 MBBS medicos also including a few house surgeons, all associated with Thanjavur Medical College. These medicos including II-year and final year students and House Surgeons are reported to have been suspended for the duration of six months from the medical institute and expelled from the campus hostel for being involved in exhibiting vandalism in the campus hostel.

According to a recent media report, the suspended medical students were high on alcohol and had damaged the properties of the medical college campus hostel after getting into a group clash. The students were repeatedly warned earlier in this regard by the medical institute authorities.

A couple of months back, a bunch of 13 medical students had behaved violently during the hostel day event after which an inquiry was initiated by the medical college authorities.

In an earlier incident on the campus, a group of 6 students was suspended for performing a similar act of indiscipline under the influence of alcohol. The suspended students comprised II-year and final year students and House Surgeons who all were warned that time.

The indiscipline happening in the campus had drawn concern from the authorities of the medical institute. Based on the report provided by the inquiry team, the medical college council conducted a meeting wherein it was decided to suspend the 19 students for a duration of 6 months.

The Medical College Dean Dr Kumudha Lingaraj informed the Hindu that the medical students have been expelled from the hostel and suspended from attending classes for six months.

"The activities of the students had been watched for some time and repeated warnings were issued. The parents of the students were informed about the acts of indiscipline of their wards," Dr Lingaraj further informed.
