Uttar Pradesh: PMO intervenes in ragging case at Motilal Nehru Medical College

Uttar Pradesh: PMO intervenes in ragging case at Motilal Nehru Medical College

Uttar Pradesh: The PMO has stepped forward in a case of alleged ragging at Motilal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC), by referring the case to MCI for further probe.

Following which the college (led by MLNMC principal Dr S P Singh) has constituted a high powered committee to internally probe the alleged incident. A MBBS student has alleged ragging by seniors in December. There is further action reported to be taken on the matter very soon.

The student in this case, has written to the PMO implying that he was mentally and physically harassed during the ragging incident. He filed his complaint through the letter to the PMO on the very same day of the alleged incident. The Anti-Ragging Cell of MCI then received instruction from the PMO to look into the allegation. Following which, MCI has forwarded the complaint to the college demanding immediate action, as found appropriate.

Sources in addition implied that so far the panel has questioned students of the 55th and 56th batches. They have submitted written statements, while the while the whole investigation has been recorded on video.

Another important related fact to the incident is being probed by the committee-as to what the student was doing in the college on a Sunday-the day when the alleged incident was reported by him. The attendance sheet of both the batch students will be produced before the panel.

TOI quoted: "The student concerned, instead of complaining to the college directly, opted to approach the PMO. Since career of several students are at stake, we are treading cautiously. The probe report will be submitted to the college on Thursday and action will be taken accordingly," said Dr RB Kamal.

All students at the college are required to sigh the Anti Ragging Undertaking (Affidavit), and any such incident reported is in clear violation of the college rules.
