The MD Pathology medico was discovered hanging to a ceiling fan in her hostel room when the foul smell was noticed emanating from her room and the room was locked from outside.

Lucknow: In an unfortunate incident, a 2nd year PG medical student pursuing MD Pathology from Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (Saifai Medical University); allegedly committed suicide by hanging to a ceiling fan in her hostel room at the medical varsity's campus.

As of now, it is not ascertained as to why the doctor took the drastic step. The police officials have stated prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide but no suicide note has been recovered from the spot.

According to recent media accounts, the tragic incident took place on late light on September 22. The MD medico was discovered hanging when the foul smell was noticed emanating from her room and the room was locked from outside.

The junior doctor did her duty in the hospital on September 21st and the next morning, a milkman knocked on her door, but she did not respond. When foul smell started emanating from her room, her neighbours alerted the medical university's administration, who in turn, immediately informed the police.

After arriving to the campus hostel premises, a police team, along with the university authorities, broke into the room, which was bolted from inside; and found the female doctor's body hanging from the ceiling fan on a scarf. The body was sent for postmortem and her family was informed.

"We did not find any suicide note in the room and the reason behind her taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. Her batchmates and her family are unable to tell us anything that can be suspected to be a possible reason. The university administration has told us that she had regularly attended her classes. The postmortem report has ruled out the possibility of foul play and confirmed ante-mortem hanging as the cause of death," Sub-Inspector Akhilesh Kumar, the officiating in-charge of Saifai police station informed The Indian Express.

Additional SP Omveer Singh told TOI that the postmortem report has revealed the cause of death to be "asphyxia due to hanging". He said the autopsy report also stated that her death had occurred on Sunday.

    Further investigation is on.
