Unfortunate: A brilliant GMC student ends life

Surat: An unusual suicide of a brilliant 19 year old MBBS girl student of Government Medical College(GMC), who was found hanging in her hostel room at New Civil Hospital, has left friends and authorities surprised. No suicide note has been recovered in her room. Therefore, it has become difficult for the police to ascertain the exact reason behind the suicide.

Dhruvi Chauhan, a resident of Mira Society, in Chhani Jakat Naka area of Vadodara is believed to have taken her life by strangulating herself with her dupatta , by hanging from a ceiling fan. Her body hanging from the fan of her room, no 43, was noticed by a few friends standing in the courtyard of New Girls Hostel building. The girl students summoned an ambulance and also informed GMC authorities, who broke open the door, but she had breathed her las,t already. The police have sent the body for postmortem.

The deceased had recently completed her preliminary exam on Saturday and was to appear for a practical exam, which was scheduled for Tuesday.

"No suicide note was recovered in the room which can indicate the exact cause of death. We are investigating the case to find out more details," said A K Verma, In-charge Assistant Commissioner, Police Control Room.

The exam scheduled to be held on Tuesday has been cancelled, following the death of the student.

Police sources have revealed of material having been seized, which is being sent for further investigation. However, exact details of the material has yet to be shared.

College sources informed that Chauhan was a brilliant student and had no study pressure. "She never discussed any academic pressure with anyone in the recent past,"a GMR faculty revealed to the TOI.
