Ujjain Medical College: 14 PG Pathology Medicos Allege Sexual Harassment, Faculty arrested
Ujjain:14 resident doctors, who are pursuing Post-Graduation in Pathology, have claimed serious allegations of sexual harassment against an Associate Professor at RD Gardi Medical College. With the medicos going ahead and registering a police complaint against him , the medical faculty was arrested earlier this week.
In support of their allegations, the medicos have submitted WhatsApp messages as proofs to the police.
As per local media accounts, an Associate Professor, Head of Transfusion Medicine, Stem Cell Therapy, Regeneration Medicine Department; who has been accused of sexual harassment by 14 junior doctors, was arrested by the police after the medicos registered an FIR against him and sent to a two-day remand custody. Dr Jain is also the in-charge of the blood bank of the medical college.
The victim doctors have also alleged that when they approached the management for the matter, they were not taken seriously.
In their complaint, the PG medicos have alleged that Dr Jain used to touch them inappropriately, ask to watch pornography on their mobiles, do vulgar comments, pressurized them for giving sexual favours; and when they resisted, he allegedly threatened them of giving negative marks in the examinations and failing them, reports Bhaskar.
Sharing the appalling situations they have allegedly been through, the PG students claimed to the Hindi Medium daily, Bhaskar, "When we were on duty, Dr Jain calls without reason, made obscene talk, tries to touch our body. Many times, he grabbed hands and tried to embrace. If we opposed, he threatened us to fail. He used to say – 'I am very happy'. Many times he resisted us to go to a washroom and lunch and said – 'You are scared like I am raping you.' He asked us to watch pornography and tried to make a physical relationship."
The students also alleged that the doctor used to ask them to come to his quarters, (quoting the doctor) "Come alone in my quarters, you are my Darling."

Offended and distressed, the girls complained to the medical college Dean and the HOD, however, their complaint was neglected. After this, on November 21, the girls reached the SP office and submitted the complaint alleging sexual harassment by the professor Dr Jain. Subsequently, the police came into immediate action and arrested the accused. The case was registered on the basis of evidence presented on behalf of the girl students including WhatsApp Messages in which Dr Jain had written, "DP (profile image) achi hai, Kaatil lag rahi ho. (The DP is good; you are looking killer)."
Accordingly, the accused doctor was presented in court a day later, from where he was sent on a two-day remand. Although the accused doctor's lawyer tried for bail but failed to get one. However, an investigation is still going on in the case.
On the other hand, defending his side, the doctor claimed to AVNews that he was just being frank and he had no idea that it would come to all this.
