Tirupur government hospital upgradation to Medical college in the offing
Tirupur: 254 new primary health centres (PHC) across the state by the AIADMK government in the past 7 years stands out as an achievement in the eyes of Health Minister, C Vijayabaskar. He made this announcement at the inaugural of a new PHC at Uppilipalayam, Karaipudur panchayat on Thursday.
“In the past one year alone, 30 new PHCs have come into existence. This is in addition to making available 44 CT scanning machines, 18 MRI scanning machines and 9 cancer diagnosing machines,” he said, adding, “We have plans to set up at least one government medical college a year and Tirupur government hospital will be considered to be upgraded as medical college soon.”
The health minister spoke of a Rs 20.64 crore to the district by the government, which is soon getting an Rs. 24 crore maternity centre. 50,000 people of Uppilipalayam and Arulpuram areas will be served through the opening of a 30-bed Uppilipalayam PHC.
According to him, Kolarpatti Government Hospital initiatives were an example of the state government’s healthcare initiatives. “The 30-bed primary health centre was upgraded to a government hospital with 20 more beds, ’’ he told the TOI.
The new Rs 75 lakh building has been built to house heart, ophthalmic, paediatric and trauma care wards, he added.
