Thiruvananthapuram: The Medical College Hospital is ridden with financial irregularities according to a report submitted by the finance wing of the Directorate of Medical Education. The financial irregularities report submitted by the Directorate’s finance officer has led to the suspension of the Medical College and Hospital’s cashier and the transfer of another official.Dr Remla Beevi, Director, Medical Education, has now ordered a detailed inquiry.
The Directorate’s Finance Officer, K.S.Usha, on the other hand has carried out a detailed financial inspection based on reports that the medical college’s cash register was being handled inappropriately.
According to rules, the cash register is to be closed on an everyday basis and the money remitted in the account; none of it was done in this case. It was discovered that the cash register was not closed, nor were accounts maintained for a period of two months. Widespread irregularities were observed in this period- like non entry of details of day to day expenses and also entries related to details of hospital revenue. The MCH receives lacs every day in the form of revenue.
The Directorate’s report also pointed out that without senior officials cooperating in the hospital affairs, no manipulation was possible and hence a comprehensive probe was called for.
