Written by savita thakur thakur Published On 2018-02-17T12:59:52+05:30  |  Updated On 17 Aug 2021 5:39 PM IST
The following article pertains to Nursing Education in the US

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is an undergraduate degree which prepares students to be a licensed nurse. You can also be a licensed nurse after a Registered Nurse (RN) associate degree. Usually, individuals who are a registered nurse study the BSN program. This is helpful when it comes to job prospects as an individual with BSN degree will be placed in a higher responsibilities job with a better compensation. This Bachelor's degree is a 4-year program which is one of the most common nursing programs. There are many other nursing programs like Doctorate Nurse Practitioner (DNP), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Licensed Practitioner Nurse (LPN). The Registered Nurse and Bachelor of Science are the most common nursing programs. Nowadays, these programs are also available online. With the growth in technology, these skill-based programs which are also modelled for online education. Now, the RN-BSN degree is available for 100% online with Best Online Science Colleges.

To be a registered nurse, students are required to study the Associate Degree in Nursing. At the completion of this program, the graduate will be given a Registered Nurse license. If you are a registered nurse, then you already have an advantage as you have studied a nursing degree. An individual who has studied the ADN program can serve as a nurse as same as the individuals with the BSN degree as they're both registered nurses who have completed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). NCLEX is a test that is necessary for being a licensed nurse in America.

BSN degree graduates tend to have given more responsibilities with delivery as these nurses have low mortality rate, low failure to rescue rates and better outcome with patients. This happens only because these nurses have spent 4 years studying and nursing with their faculty. They tend to have more experience than the nurses who are ADN graduates who also hold a registered nurse license. This Bachelor Online Science Degree (BSN degree) usually takes 4 years but if a student holds a registered nurse license then this program can be completed within 2 years. The main difference between a RN nurse with a ADN degree and a RN nurse with a BSN degree is the level of education.

The curriculum of the BSN degree and coursework includes Clinical Practice, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, Nutrition and General Education like English. Students enrolling in RN-BSN will consider your associate degree coursework as a bridge course. The bachelor's degree will have science-based learning and instructional nursing skills. The BSN program will include Emergency Care, Nutrition, Health Assessment, Research and Scholarship for Evidence-Based Practice, Family, Community, and Population-Based Care, Public and Global Health, Issues and Trends in Nursing.

An ADN degree registered nurse and a BSN degree registered nurse are both eligible to enable people to enter the healthcare industry for work as nurses. A registered nurse with a BSN degree will be given responsibilities like care of patients, assessments, completion of procedures, and medical charting. But a registered nurse without a BSN degree will be given duties like nurse educator, unit/department coordinator, and management positions. Many hospitals require individuals to have a minimum BSN degree which does not allow registered nurses without a BSN degree to work with them. Many hospitals have a program where their registered nurses without a BSN degree will be given reimbursement of their fees if they are enrolled in an RN-BSN program.

When it comes to jobs, Nursing has been a solid career path but, recently, the number of nurses has come down. So, there is no better to pursue nursing than right now as there is a great demand for registered nurses with a BSN degree. The nursing programs may be a little expensive than other degrees but there are many financial aid options available. Depending on the educational institution, there are many scholarships and financial aid like federal aid available. Federal aid is the reserved fund for education from the federal government which will provide eligible students with partial or full scholarships. As mentioned earlier, if you are employed as a registered nurse, your employer may have a scholarship for studying the BSN program. There also private scholarships available which need to be researched on by the student. All these financial aid options are available for regular on-campus and online education.
