    Thief nabbed at Dharmapuri Medical College hostel by alert students

    According to the nabbed thief, they had accessed the premises by climbing walls from the back side of the college property.


    Dharmapuri: A Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital (DGMCH) girl student who spotted trespassers loitering on the 4th floor verandah in the wee hours of morning on Monday raised an alarm and a few other equally alert managed to nab one of the men who had entered a hostel room with the intention of theft and a bid to pick up valuables like laptops and cell phones.


    The nabbed criminal was immediately handed over to the police on duty at the Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital (DGMCH) outpost. His associates, however, managed to flee, escaping the alarm raised by the hostel students.


    The caught criminal who identified himself as Madesh 25, revealed himself to be a native of Jogir Kottai village, near Jittandahalli in Dharmapuri. He told the police that the three others accompanying him with the intention to rob hailed from Coimbatore.


    According to the nabbed thief, they had accessed the premises by climbing walls from the back side of the college property. Their intention he said, was to rob whatever they would have discovered from the rooms they could have access to according to a recent report in the Deccan Chronicle.


    The Government Dharmapuri Medical College was started in the year 2008. The College and the Hospital Buildings exist in the unitary campus and are well connected by rail and road. The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.


    About 100 students are admitted, of which 85 students are under State Quota and 15 students under All India Quota. The institution was recognized from the Medical Council of India for the award of MBBS degree in the year 2013.


    In the year 2009, separate Hostel Buildings for men and women were inaugurated.
