    Target to complete AIIMS Mangalagiri by September 2020: Minister apprises parliament
    New Delhi: As per the mandate of the Cabinet, target date of completion of AIIMS Mangalagiri is September, 2020, the Health Minister informed the Rajya Sabha Recently on being questioned the Ministry of Health and Family about the Operational status of AIIMS, Mangalagiri.

    The minister in the a written reply was responding to question raised by MP. Shri V. Vijayasai Reddy who triggered a number of questions at the ministry regarding the status of construction of AIIMS at Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh.

    "Whether it is a fact that the initial estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1,600 crores, but so far Ministry has released only Rs.106 crores in four years," one of his questions stated

    The minister responded through a written reply saying that the Cabinet has approved setting up of AIIMS at Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh on 07.10.2015. Construction Progress is as follows

    • OPD Block & Residential Complex- 70%

    • Hospital and Academic Campus- 26%


    To the second question so raised he responded that "Out of total sanctioned cost of Rs. 1618 crore, Rs. 385.54 crore has been released so far."

    The minister also informed the Rajya sabha " the OPD services have been started in AIIMS Mangalagiri from March 2019, adding that the target date of completion of AIIMS Mangalagiri is September 2020.

    AIIMS Manglagiri, Andhra Pradesh has constantly been a matter of discussion from the very date, the news of its commencement came up.

    On July 2014, in the budget speech for 2014-15, the Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley announced a budget of 500 crores for the so-called phase 4 institutions, AIIMS, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and the Purvanchal region in Uttar Pradesh.

    In October 2015 AIIMS Manglagiri was approved by the cabinet at a cost of 1,618 crores. Construction work on the permanent campus was started in September 2017.

    AIIMS, Mangalagiri had commenced its Academic Session 2018-19 from a temporary campus at Government Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada. The temporary campus is operational for two years. Accordingly, for eight departments, new academic blocks had been constructed.

    In November 2018 Former Director & CEO of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and present Director cum Vice Chancellor, Sri Venkateshwara Insitute Medical Science (SVIMS) Dr TS Ravikumar has taken charge as President of AIIMS Manglagiri.
