    Tamil Nadu Residential training for NEET in govt, govt aided schools to start from April 5

    Coimbatore: Intensive residential training for the medical aspirants from government and government-aided schools is to start from April 5. The training program is being initiated by the school education department to prepare them for the forthcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET).


    The centres that will run the program include Coimbatore, Virudhunagar, Trichy, Chennai, Erode, Kovilpatti, Thiruvallur, Dindigul, and Thoothukudi.


    “It is an attempt by the state government to increase the number of students entering the medical colleges from the government and government-aided schools,” said a source from the school education department.


    A strength of 2,000 students would be trained in Tamil medium centres at Thiruvallur, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Trichy, and another 900 in English medium centres in Chennai, , Kovilpatti, Thoothukudiand Erode, said sources to the TOI.


    “Coimbatore was selected to train the students in Tamil medium,” chief educational officer P Ayyannan informed the daily, adding that arrangements were being made to train the students at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology at Kuniamuthur inf.


    50 students, from districts, will be selected based on their Class X marks, learning abilities and assessments taken during the higher secondary education. “Each centre will train a total of 350 to 400 students from five or six nearby districts for a month,” said an official from the Chief Educational officer’s office.


    “Teachers specialized in physics, chemistry, botany and zoology, who would be teaching at the centres, were recently sent to Bengaluru for intensive training,” the official said, adding that experts would also train the students.


    “The students will have to take assessment tests during evening hours on a regular basis and the evaluation will be done subsequently,” the source from school department said.


    Commencing from April 5, the state government would hold coaching classes every day between 9 am and 5 pm at 412 centres across the state. Earlier, these classes were offered only on the weekends.
