Tamil Nadu: Medical Scammer S Madhan found with Rs.14000 in prison cell

Written by Geeta Sharma Sharma Published On 2017-03-15T16:19:59+05:30  |  Updated On 19 Dec 2022 4:20 PM IST

Chennai: S Madhan of Vendhar movies, who was picked up from a woman accomplice's house in Tirupur in November,2016 by the police for a medical admission scam worth Rs.84.59 Crore, has now been found in possession of Rs. 14,000 in his jail cell.

Madhan is lodged in the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai. The money was recovered from his person by the police intelligence officials, when they conducted a surprise check on him, on Monday last.

The cash lay concealed under a bed sheet, all in new Rs 500 currency notes. The prison officials were surprised at the new development, and reported the incident to the Puzhal police. The police personnel are now probing on how the currency entered the scammer's cell. Based on the complaint of the prison officials, the Puzhal police has registered a case against Madhan, and formally arrested him again, in this case as well, reports the TOI.

Madhan, an accomplice of the Chairman SRM Group, TR Pachamuthu, the man behind the medical college cheating case,( who allegedly duped 109 students of crores), disappeared in a mysterious manner after May 27, 2016.

TR Pachamuthu on the other hand lay languishing in jail after having been picked up by the Chennai police, on the basis of complaints lodged by over a 100 parents, who named him along with Madhan in their complaints of cheating for promised admissions for their wards to SRM College..

Founder of the IJK party, an alleged ally of the BJP, Pachamuthu alias Pari Vendhar, was put behind in this case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention), This, despite his repeated denials of not having anything to do with Madhan and also alleging that Madhan had indulged in forgery by creating false documents in the company's name and forging his signatures.

Interestingly, Pachamuthu's arrest became a reality only after the Madras High Court questioned the police, whether it was political interests that were leading to the postponement of the alleged scammer's arrest by them. The apex body had also expressed its intention to transfer the investigation to another agency, if the postponement of arrest continued, any further.

However, the case began to unwind only after Madhan disappeared in May 2016.

It is alleged that in an earlier raid conducted in 2013, at Madhan's production house and SRM, by the CBI, unaccounted cash was recovered from both locations. Interestingly, the disappearance of Madhan, brought to light a suicide note left behind by him. The note admitted to him facing a lot of opposition within the SRM clan; which he said was primarily due to his growing intimacy with TR Pachamuthu.

The note also mentioned his intention of wanting to attain 'Samadhi' in Varanasi before his disappearance. Blaming the SRM group of institutions, he confessed being their admission agent . In his note, Madhan's regretted that the crores collected from parents would not result in granting of seats for their wards at SRM, because of NEET becoming operational.

The four other persons under arrest in this case include: Vijayapandiyan, an associate of Madhan; Dr Bargavan Pachamuthu, a medical doctor and also the state secretary of the medical wing of Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK) party (a party founded by Pachamuthu);Shanmugam, Madurai District Secretary of the IJK party; and Babu, Dindugal District Secretary of IJK party.
