Tamil Nadu: Govt medical colleges granted 150 new seats
Chennai: An additional 150 seats have been introduced in government medical colleges in the state for the present academic year 2017-18. The increase comes about with the Medical Council of India(MCI), giving an approval nod for a college in Pudokottai.
The Union Health Ministry's communication regarding the addition is expected prior to the commencement of counselling, said Health Secretary , J Radhakrishnan
Presently there are 2,750 MBBS seats in 21 medical colleges, including four in Chennai. In 2016, after 15% of seats were reduced and given away for the national quota, counselling was held for 2,318.
Foundation for the college, for which approval was granted in August 2015, was laid in March 2016, at Mullur village, on a 127-acre plot, reports TOI.
