Swine flu deaths rise to 4 at Indira Gandhi Medical College

Shimla: Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMC) registered another death due to Swine flu as a patient belonging to Bilaspur district succumbed in the hospital, Senior Medical Superintendent of IGMC Dr Janak confirmed.

As many as eleven patients were treated and discharged after recovery from the disease while four died this year in the hospital.

He said total 20 patients were tested positive for H1N1 virus out of whom five are under medical supervision including a female patient. All are reported stable.

A 65 year old patient belonging to Gagal of Mandi died on Tuesday in the hospital while a two-year old girl Priyanka Bamta village of Bilaspur succumbed last night at 2020 hrs. The deceased were admitted and tested for the H1N1 on January 20.

Mr Janak said these people who died of swine flu either contracted swine flu during journey or by neglecting symptoms as most of the deceased were children, women and a man above 65 years.

First case of swine flu was reported in the world in 2009 and thereafter it spread worldwide. It spreads through H1N1 Influenza virus.
