    Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases: JIPMER organises CME
    A Jipmer release on Tuesday said, the main focus of the CME was on Epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases and Capacity building to achieve highest level of disease control through vaccine coverage and robust surveillance system mechanism.

    Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in collaboration with WHO – NPSP office, Puducherry and Indian Public Health Association, Puducherry chapter organized one day Continuing Medical Edudcation (CME) on Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases on Monday.

    A Jipmer release on Tuesday said, the main focus of the CME was on Epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases and Capacity building to achieve highest level of disease control through vaccine coverage and robust surveillance system mechanism.

    The CME was aimed at sensitizing the participants, health care professionals and individuals pursuing careers in Public Health at all levels with regard to the current scenario of vaccine preventable diseases such as Diphtheria, Measles, Rubella and Polio and enlightened them towards eradication process.

    Dr Saira Banu, WHO Surveillance Medical Officer and Faculty from Department of preventive and social medicine, Jipmer, Puducherry served as resource persons in deliberating on surveillance and update on vaccine preventable diseases in which around 200 medical health professionals such as Faculty, Post graduates, Ph.d scholars and MPH students from community medicine department, paediatricians and nursing professionals from various medical institutions participated.

    Inaugurating the CME, Dr Gautam Roy, Senior Professor and IPHA president, Puducherry Chapter highlighted that “Surveillance in public health is like an Intensive care unit of hospital”.

    Following the inauguration, Dr Saira Banu deliberated on the National Updates on Measles Rubella Surveillance. After the deliberation, Postgraduates from Department of PSM, Jipmer presented scientific papers on vaccine preventable diseases like Diphtheria, Measles-Rubella and Tetanus.
