Students under duress, as COMEDK and KRLMPCA counselling dates clash

Kalaburagi: Minority Medical Students are in a predicament, as counselling dates of Karnataka Religious and Linguistics Minorities Professional Colleges Association (KRLMPCA), and COMEDK, are scheduled for the same day.

While Counselling for COMEDK has been scheduled for September 8 and 10 with the admission process having commenced on August 18, the KRLMPCA will hold counsel students on September 9 at Khaja Bande Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences (KBNIMS), Kalaburagi.

The linguistic and religious minority colleges in the state include KBNIMS, Al-Ameen Medical College, Vijayapura, and Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, Shivamogga. While in the dental category there are five colleges, in the linguistic minority category. The total no of seats in the MBBS and dental categories in these colleges are 192 and 209 respectively.

The dilemma facing the students related to counselling is that the COMEDK counselling will be held in Bengaluru and the KRLMPCA admission process would be conducted in Kalaburagi. It is mandatory for students to be present for both the processes.

Parents see a conspiracy in the clash of dates . According to them it may be an attempt on the part of the KRLMPCA to keep the poor away, so that the allotment could be given to the rich.

An official of the KRLMPCA in Bengaluru, however, contradicted this belief by saying that these dates could be changed as the second round of dates for counselling for the two are also clashing. The COMEDK round was taking place on September 20 and 22, while the KRLMPCA round is scheduled for September 20.
