Sting Operation: Principal of GMC Amritsar caught doing private practice

Amritsar: The Vigilance Bureau (VB) sleuths on Saturday morning have caught the principal of Government Medical College, Amritsar, Dr BS Bal while doing private practice at his residence, officials have informed.

The officials stated that the move came after the Vigilance department received an anonymous complaint stating that the doctor is indulging in private practice. As per the laws in punjab, government doctors are not permitted to indulge in private practice since the government had banned private practice by government doctors in the state in 2013.

Acting on the complaint, it is reported that the eight-member team, led by DSP (Vigilance) Navjot Singh, sent a decoy as a patient to the principal’s residence at Medical Enclave and carried out a raid at 8am. The team found eight patients waiting at the clinic. The vigilance took prescriptions slips from all patients as evidence reports the Tribune . The daily further adds that the no arrests were made in light of a Supreme court order, yet a report is being sent to the Secretary, Medical Education, for necessary departmental action against him.

Dr Bal in his defence that the move was political and that the raid was a trap set against him. “It is a trap against me. I have been framed. The man came to my home and asked me to treat him. I just did my job. I will meet Amritsar SSP RK Bakshi on Tuesday as he is out of town and present my case. I have informed my department and presented my case,” he told HT.
