SKIMS gets MCI recognition for Two seats in MS Orthopaedics Course
Srinagar: The Bemina-based Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has bagged the recognition from the apex Medical Council of India (MCI) for its two MS seats in Orthopaedics department.
With this, the orthopaedics department of SKIMS has become the first Post-Graduate (PG) department of the institution to be recognized by the MCI.
The medical college bagged the MCI's nod on the basis of the reports by medical council Assessor on the inspections conducted last year.
Greater Kashmir reports that the Board of Governors of the MCI have communicated to the medical college authorities that after considering the Council Assessor's reports dated March 2018 as also the June 2018 compliance report of the college authorities, recognition is granted for two seats of MS (Orthopaedics) at the SKIMS.

The recognition is given for 5 years and would be renewed when the medical college applies for renewal. The MS course was started in the year 2013 at SKIMS.
After getting the good news of more PG Orthopaedics seats at the medical college, the Principal and Head Department of Orthopaedics at SKIMS hailed the decision and congratulated its faculty and students, as per Greater Kashmir.
Earlier, Medical Dialogues had reported that holding on to its 100 MBBS seats may prove as a bit of a task for the medical college, as various infrastructural deficiencies were found by the apex Medical Council during its inspection of the medical institute in November.
To check whether SKIMS medical college holds sufficient facilities as mandated for its 100 MBBS seats, a three-member team of the apex medical council went on a two-day visit to the medical college to inspect the infrastructure, bed strength, patient care, faculty and standard of academics.
